Motorcyclist flees police traffic stop, crashes and dies in Coon Rapids

He was observed committing multiple traffic violations.

A motorcyclist died in the early hours of Wednesday morning when he crashed as he fled a police traffic stop.

Coon Rapids Police Department says officers observed "multiple traffic violations" by a man on a Honda RS bike at Egret Boulevard NW and Foley Boulevard NW at 2:46 a.m.

After trying to initiate a traffic stop, the motorcyclist "fled at a high rate of speed," running a Stop sign and then crashing into a Ford Escape that was crossing the intersection at Dogwood Street NW and 102nd Lane NW.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bike, and died at the scene despite lifesaving attempted.

The deceased has not been identified at this stage. The Ford Escape driver, a 21-year-old man from Coon Rapids, suffered minor injuries and is cooperating with police.
