A motorcyclist is hospitalized in critical condition after an overnight crash with a deer. 

The collision happened around 12:43 a.m. on the 24200 block of University Ave. NE in rural Bethel, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, which said in a release that a 41-year-old Isanti man was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle north on the roadway when he collided with a deer. 

The man was found lying in the middle of the road and was conscious when first responders arrived. He was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition. 

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, the sheriff's release said. 

The crash is being investigated and no further information has been released.
