A 38-year-old man was injured when he crashed his motorcycle in an attempt to avoid hitting a deer in Crow Wing County on Monday.
According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, Thomas Clinton of Crosslake was riding near the 43000 block of County Road 136 in Emily at 4:45 p.m. when a deer ran out onto the road in front of him.
"Clinton attempted to avoid a collision and laid the motorcycle down on the road," the release says.
He was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
From 2015-2019, there were 7,247 deer crashes reported to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, including 20 deaths, data show. Of those who died, 17 were motorcyclists, with DPS noting vehicle-deer collisions are especially dangerous for motorcyclists.
