Motorcyclists died in separate crashes in Coon Rapids and Mounds View on Wednesday.

The first fatal crash happened just after 4 p.m. in the area of 119th Ave. NW and Hanson Blvd. NW in Coon Rapids, with the Anoka County Sheriff's Office reporting that a man was riding northbound on Hanson Blvd. and collided with a vehicle driver turning south onto Hanson Blvd. from the Lions Coon Creek Park entrance.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. No further information about the crash has been provided.

A second deadly motorcycle crash happened at approximately 8:24 p.m. in Mounds View.

According to the State Patrol, 42-year-old Jason M. Fagin was riding a Honda motorcycle eastbound on Hwy. 10 when he "caught gravel" and "failed to negotiate the curve to southbound 35W."

The State Patrol says Fagin was "traveling at a high rate of speed" when he lost control. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the crash report.

The state's Office of Traffic Safety issued a release Wednesday noting that there had been at least 198 deaths on Minnesota roads so far in 2021, well ahead of the 147 that were recorded through the same date in 2020. Of those 198 fatalities, 78 were speed-related crashes.
