Moorhead-based American Crystal Sugar paid a nearly $25,000 fine last week. The Star Tribune says the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency found the co-op's plant in East Grand Forks, Minn., exceeded emissions.
The Associated Press reports state regulators also found monitoring equipment was not working properly and daily inspection records were incomplete. The company has taken corrective actions to resolve the issues.
American Crystal paid a $50,000 civil penalty in 2010, the Pioneer Press reported. The MPCA found runoff from the East Grand Forks plant made its way to a nearby creek -- which led to complaints about odors and discoloration.
