Authorities in Riverside, Calif., have charged a suspect with murdering a Minnesota woman whose dismembered remains were found in plastic bags along a railroad track last month, the Associated Press reports.

Jamie Lea Harmer's grandmother tells the AP the 32-year-old had struggled with drug addiction and had moved from Thief River Falls to California last fall to look for work.

In her Associated Press interview, the grandmother – Olivia Pinske of Plato, Minnesota – says Harmer had struggled with drug addiction and never fully recovered from the death of her older brother 12 years ago.

The Riverside Press Enterprise reports police announced they'd found Harmer's remains on April 27 but said little about the circumstances until this week.

The Riverside Police Department's statement says investigators spent 18 hours searching the apartment of Christopher Marcus Brown on Tuesday and arrested the 28-year-old on an unrelated warrant. Police say the search provided evidence linking Brown to Harmer's death. The AP says he was charged with murder Friday afternoon.

A memorial posted by Johnson-Green Funeral Service mentions a handful of Minnesota cities in which Harmer had lived and says she has family members in Norwood, Plato, Grygla, Thief River Falls, Longville, Hutchinson, and Stewartville.

The AP says a memorial service is planned in Grygla on June 8.
