  • Officer Taylor Jacobs, four years
  • Officer John Mott, eight years
  • Officer LynRae Tonn, 17 years

The shooting happened in the McDonalds parking lot on Washington Avenue and Highway 13. Police say they arrived around 6:15 a.m. and found a person brandishing a weapon – what type of weapon has not been specified.

The Police Department's news release did not get into the specifics of what happened, but said the encounter resulted in police fatally shooting the individual.

No officers were injured.

The person killed will be identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, who will also determine a cause of death. Once the information is available and family is notified, that information will be released to the public, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says.

The inciden is still under investigation. Burnsville Police Chief Eric Gieseke said in a news conference that the officers involved were wearing body cameras.

Witnesses and anyone with information are asked to call the BCA at 651-793-7000.
