NDSU looks for 9th straight victory over South Dakota State

North Dakota State and South Dakota State renew a budding college football rivalry.

There is plenty of history on the line when North Dakota State and South Dakota State square off on the football field.

Saturday afternoon's matchup in Fargo will be the 105th of the series, which dates all the way back to 1903. While the two schools are relatively close – just a 200 mile journey up I-29 – their rivalry game is relatively new.

The Bison and Jacks have played for the Dakota Marker annually since 2004 – it's the year both schools began Division I competition.

The trophy is a 75-pound model replica of the quartzite monuments that stood 7 feet tall and 10 inches square to mark the border of North and South Dakota.

The Bison have a decided advantage in the overall series, they lead 59-40-5. They have won eight straight meetings and six straight Dakota Marker games.

At home, NDSU has been even more dominant. They are 13-1 in the Fargo Dome against SDSU. That lone Jacks win came in 2008 – a 25-24 win – SDSU's only one in Fargo since 1962.

But many of the games have been close. Five of the 12 Dakota Marker games have been decided by seven points or less.

Kickoff on Saturday is at 2:30.
