New St. Paul ballpark could create parking issues for residents

Some condo owners near the future home of the St. Paul Saints in downtown St. Paul could lose their private parking spots, Finance & Commerce reports. It's one of the issues mentioned in a new environmental assessment for the $54 million ballpark.

The project could eliminate about 320 public and privately owned parking spaces near Fifth and Broadway streets in Lowertown, which would directly impact residents of Market House Condominiums.

The Pioneer Press cites data provided by St. Paul Smart Trips, which says there are 6,842 off-street parking spaces available to the public within six blocks of the proposed project site.

Construction on the stadium is set to begin later this year and ready for the first pitch of the 2015 baseball season.

The public can comment on the environmental worksheet until April 3. A public open house will be held on March 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Great Hall in St. Paul.
