Troy Alan Birkholz, a 48-year-old New Brighton man, died July 4, a week and a half after he was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 35W in Arden Hills.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner announced Birkholz's death on Thursday, saying he passed away the morning of the Fourth of July at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis.

The 48-year-old's vehicle stalled on southbound I-35W near County Road I in Arden Hills just before 10 p.m. on June 24.

With his vehicle stalled in the right lane, another motorist from Blaine swerved his Chrysler 200 from the right lane to the right-center lane and struck Birkholz, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Birkholz died of multiple blunt force injuries, the medical examiner's report said.
