The experiment didn't last long for the Bearcat Bar in Minneapolis' Loring Park neighborhood.

Barely a month has passed since restauranteur Kim Bartmann (Tiny Diner, Pat's Tap, Bryant Lake Bowl) closed down The Third Bird and reopened it as a new concept called the Bearcat, offering "more approachable, faster and cheaper" dining and drinking, as well as arcade games and pool.

But on Friday, the Bearcat website shows the venue is "closed for business."

Speaking to Mpls.St. Paul Magazine, Bartmann said jobs for most of the employees had been found at her seven other restaurants, and called the closure of the bar as "the worst."

She described the bar's location on Harmon Place as "tough," saying the Third Bird was too ambitious so they decided to go "low" with a more casual concept in Bearcat. As a result though, they "lost money faster."

The closure comes despite some positive reviews, including this one by CityPages which called it a "laid-back addition" to the area with some good comfort food on the menu.

The publication named the bar's fried baloney sandwich as one of its "things to try" this week.

The Bearcat's name was an homage to the Stutz Bearcat, one of America’s first sports cars, in view of the fact 1612 Harmon Place used to be home to a Stutz dealership.
