The Plymouth Police Department has released new photos of the suspect vehicle in the fatal shooting of youth baseball coach Jay Boughton.
The 56-year-old was driving home with his son around 10 p.m. on July 6, on Highway 169 south of Rockford Road, following the conclusion of a game in Coon Rapids. Police said another motorist heading the same direction opened fire while alongside Boughton's vehicle.
Jay Boughton suffered a gunshot wound to the head, lost control of the vehicle and crashed in a parking lot. He later died at a hospital.
Police, despite releasing multiple photos and even a map, are still searching for the suspected shooter. On Thursday the department provided new images of the suspect vehicle:
Police believe the vehicle is a 2015-2020 silver Chevrolet Suburban LT.
"Anyone who may recall seeing the vehicle of interest in the area of Arden Hills on Snelling Avenue south of 694, or traveling westbound along 694 on the night of the incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers of Minnesota at 1-800-222-8477," police said.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the identification of the shooter.
Authorities say a "traffic altercation" may have preceded the shooting — something "very minor" like a lane change, Plymouth Police Chief Erik Fadden said in the days after the shooting.
"This wasn't a back and forth, and it escalated quickly, and we don't know why right now," he said.
The Armstrong Cooper Youth Baseball Association community set up a GoFundMe page to support the Boughtons. The page has brought in more than $80,000 so far.
