Gamers rejoice! Nintendo on Thursday gave fans their first extended glimpse at its new gaming device, the Nintendo Switch.

The unveiling came through a 3-minute video posted on the Japanese console and gamemaker's social media accounts, and looks like a significant departure from the rival PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Nintendo is following up its Wii and Wii U with a new console that is in effect a "two-for-one" offer, with owners able to play the Switch as an in-home console, as well as a handheld device.

Here's the trailer.

The video introduces the Switch in the traditional setting for a console, with a gamer playing in his living room on his big screen. But when his dog pesters him for a walk, the game simply detaches the handheld aspect of the Switch and brings it with him, continuing his game during the walk.

There are more surprises as the trailer continues, with a player on an airplane revealing that the controls on the handheld can also be detached and used separately. And not only that they can be shared with someone else for multiplayer gaming.

According to The Verge, the games showed include: The Legend of Zelda, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Mario Kart 8, NBA 2K, a new Super Mario, and Splatoon.

"The Nintendo Switch system ... enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose," Nintendo says. "The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles."

The Switch goes on sale in the U.S. in March.
