17 members of a Nisswa, Minnesota, family are making a sad trip to Newtown, Connecticut, to attend a funeral for a six-year-old. Charlotte Bacon was among the 26 victims of Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Her mother, JoAnn Bacon, is a Minnesota native. Charlotte's grandmother, Irene Hagen, tells WCCO the family is devastated and is trying to come to terms with the killing.

Charlotte's uncle, John Hagen, shared with Newsday the heartbreaking story of how Charlotte had convinced her mom to let her wear a new pink dress and boots that were an early holiday present to school on Friday ... never suspecting it would be the last outfit she wore. John Hagen says his niece "was going to go some places in this world. This little girl could light up the room for anyone."

Charlotte's older brother was also at Sandy Hook at the time of the shooting but was uninjured.

Connecticut's governor said Sunday that authorities suspect the shooter would have claimed more victims if law enforcement had not shown up when they did. Adam Lanza turned his weapon on himself only when first responders arrived at the school. Lanza killed 26 people - 20 of them children - at Sandy Hook before his suicide. has a page memorializing Charlotte and the other victims of the Newtown shooting.
