No fair! Carnival rides a no-show in Goodhue County

Organizers of the Goodhue County Fair in Zumbrota scrambled this week to improvise after their carnival rides never showed up.

Fair Director Carol Schumann told KAAL that the fair had a contract with a company to supply the rides and games, but all calls have gone unanswered.

KARE 11 reports the Montana-based carnival group, Royal West Amusements, was double-booked and chose an event where there was more cash to be made. Fortunately, no money between the fair and the company had exchanged hands yet.

Bounce houses were brought in for children as a substitute and a local guy donated his kiddie train, KARE said. However, organizers say the fair is still full of other attractions.

"Our barns are overflowing with 4-H livestock and we have a lot of free entertainment lined up," Schumann told the television station.

The fair runs through Sunday.
