Nordstrom, Eagan-based health company both hiring hundreds in MN

Two companies – one based in Minnesota, one not – each plan to hire more than 300 workers for jobs in Minnesota.

Prime Therapeutics

Prime Therapeutics will add 375 positions in the state over the next three years, the company announced Friday.

The Eagan-based company is also working to secure a lease for a 70,000-square-foot space in Mendota Heights to help support its growth, the release says, where some of the jobs are likely to be based.

The new jobs will be office-based and include pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, clinical review assistants and others.

Prime Therapeutics is a pharmacy benefit manager – a company that will work with a drug manufacturer to set a price of a drug, and then how much a pharmacy will be reimbursed. The difference is essentially revenue for the pharmacy benefit manager (often referred to as a PBM).

PBMs say ultimately, they save people money. They’re so big and have so many customers, they can negotiate lower prices from drug companies and pass those savings along to the consumers and employers.

One study said PBMs could mean nearly $2 trillion in savings on prescription drug costs from 2012-21.

A CNN and Fortune piece from October 2013 cast some doubt about such claims however.

Nordstrom

Meanwhile KARE 11 reports Nordstrom is hiring 370 workers for a new store at Ridgedale Mall. Most will be in the form of sales associates, support staff and restaurant workers, the Business Journal reports.

You can look at the jobs offered on Nordstrom's website.

It's the second Nordstrom store in Minnesota for the Seattle-based fashion retailer, according to Lakeshore Weekly News. The other is at Mall of America.
