Now 2 people believe they were bitten by muskies in Minnesota lake

This is the second reported muskie attack in Island Lake this summer.

A second person was reportedly bitten by a muskie in a northern Minnesota lake.

Wendy Haldorson posted photos to Facebook over the weekend, warning people not to wear jewelry in Island Lake (located in St. Louis County north of Duluth) after her daughter was bitten by what they believe was a muskie.

Haldorson told WDIO her 22-year-old daughter was wearing an ankle bracelet as she dangled her feet from the family's dock. Haldorson also noted there was a fish basket holding a few walleye hanging off the dock, she told the news station.

The woman didn't need stitches and is doing OK.

This isn't the first time this summer someone was bitten by what people believe was a muskie in Island Lake, KARE 11 says

In July, the Duluth News Tribune reported an 11-year-old girl had to have stitches after she was bitten as she dangled her feet from her a paddleboard.

Island Lake is a known muskie lake that's been stocked with hundreds of pounds of fingerlings in recent years.

Muskies are described as one of the "largest and most elusive fish" in Minnesota lakes, with the Minnesota DNR noting they wait in weed beds before "lunging forward to clamp onto their prey."

GoMN has reached out to the DNR for more information on muskie bites, and whether it thinks these two incidents were related to the elusive fish.
