Off-duty police officer killed in bicycle-car collision in Rogers

A police officer was killed while riding his bicycle off-duty in Rogers, Minnesota, early Sunday.

The incident happened on the 22600 block of Industrial Boulevard – a frontage road along I-94 – at 12:16 a.m., with the officer found unconscious and suffering grave injuries after being in a collision with a car.

Efforts to revive the officer were unsuccessful, and he was declared dead around 1 a.m.

The victim's identity hasn't been revealed yet, but FOX 9 reports that he is a member of Hopkins Police Department.

Preliminary investigation found that the bike and the car were traveling in the same direction at the time. The driver of the car, a woman, is cooperating with enquiries.

"We would like to thank all of the agencies who assisted with this scene," said Rogers PD Chief Daniel Wills.

"Additionally, our thoughts and condolences go out to those affected by this very tragic and sad event."
