A man who fled from police was uninjured when an officer fired on his vehicle during a pursuit Wednesday morning.

The suspect, a 31-year-old Cottage Grove man, led authorities on a chase through Wright and Meeker counties west of the Twin Cities, with the Meeker County Sheriff's Office reporting that the pursuit began on westbound Hwy. 12 in Dassel Township just prior to 8 a.m.

Authorities learned that the vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run accident that prompted pursuit by Wright County law enforcement, only to have the chase end due to the high rate of speed the fleeing suspect was traveling at entering Cokato.

Meeker County deputies later spotted the vehicle veering into oncoming traffic on Hwy. 12, so they began pursuit with hopes of getting the erratic driver off the road before he caused a crash.

They successfully stopped the vehicle with stop sticks on Hwy. 12 east of Litchfield and the Cottage Grove man was taken into custody without incident.

While the stop sticks were being deployed, a Litchfield police officer shot at the vehicle. It's unclear if the bullet struck the vehicle. The use of force is now under investigation per standard protocol, according to the sheriff's office.

The 31-year-old suspect was booked into Meeker County Jail for fleeing a peace officer, DUI, and driving after revocation.

No one was injured during the chase.
