Officials want to speak to the driver and any occupants of the vehicle.
The vehicle was traveling down the highway around the time 29-year-old Derek Fath was fatally hit by a vehicle near the intersection of northbound Highway 169 and Belle Plaine Trail.
WCCO says Fath was walking home from a friend's house when he was hit. He and his girlfriend have a son who is about to turn 2 years old, the news station says.
There is a GoFundMe Page set up for Fath's memorial service – it had raised more than $10,000 of its $15,000 goal in the first day.
Anyone who may have been involved or witnessed the hit-and-run is asked to contact the State Patrol at 651-582-1503.
