It's time to take to the streets and get to know your neighbors.

Open Streets Minneapolis kicked off its 7th season on Sunday. Thirty blocks of Lyndale Avenue were blocked off from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., creating a safe, car-free space for the community and local businesses to come together.

Never been to Open Streets? It's kind of like a street festival, with a bunch of activities for people of all ages – stuff like free yoga, live music, food and drinks, shopping, and children's activities, like this petting zoo:

The event is hosted by the City of Minneapolis and Our Streets Minneapolis (formerly known as the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition), and encourages people to enjoy the street on bicycle, foot, wheelchair, skateboard or roller skates. The goal is for the community to "rethink our streets as public space," the city says.

Open Streets Minneapolis started in 2011, and has grown considerably, drawing 81,000 people to eight events last year.

City council has approved seven events for Open Streets' 2017 season – the next event will be held downtown on Sunday, June 11. You can find the full schedule of events here.

And here's some more posts from people at Sunday's outing:
