A man died after being shot in St. Paul on Tuesday evening, and his suspected shooter later shot himself while being pursued by police.
Police were called to the 1400 block of Minnehaha Avenue East to a report of a shooting around 9 p.m., but didn't find a victim when they arrived.
It turns out, according to witnesses, the victim had been shot and taken away from the scene in a private vehicle.
He showed up shortly later at Regions Hospital with gunshot wounds to his upper torso, with life-saving measures ultimately unsuccessful.
Police searched the area around Minnehaha Avenue East for evidence and possible suspects, and came across a man on the 1400 block of 6th Street East who matched a description they'd obtained.
When they tried to stop him, he fled on foot, with officers losing sight of him as he rounded the corner of a home.
A gunshot was then heard, with police finding him on the ground suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He was taken to Regions Hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
The victim in the homicide has not been identified, with this information released at a later date by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.
It's the fourth homicide in St. Paul so far in 2019. The city only had 15 all year in 2018.
