A man has died after suffering a gunshot wound in an "altercation" in south Minneapolis Wednesday evening.

According to Minneapolis police's account, officers went to 14th Avenue South and East 24th Street after a ShotSpotter notification just before 8 p.m.

When they got there, they found a man in his 20s in a grave condition from a gunshot wound, and another man about a block-and-a-half away with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

They were both taken to HCMC, where the man with grave injuries died, and the other was admitted in a serious condition.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that there was an altercation between two parties and gun shots were fired," the Minneapolis PD statement says.

"The suspect fled prior to police arrival. Investigators are still piecing together what role each of the victims played in this incident."
