One dead, one seriously injured in shooting and fire near Bemidji

Police responding to an emergency near Bemidji arrived to find a house fully engulfed in flames, a body inside, and a man suffering serious gunshot wounds.

The incident was reported at 12:34 a.m. Monday at a house in the 11000 block of Trengrove Road NW, Grant Valley Township, about 10 miles west of Bemidji.

Police arrived to find the house fully alight, and a man in an adjacent outbuilding suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. 

He was taken to Sanford-Bemidji for treatment. His condition is currently unknown.

When the fire was extinguished, police found a body inside the home. The identity of both individuals involved have not been released at this stage.

A cause of death for the fire victim will be determined via an autopsy by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.

"This investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time," the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office said.
