One killed in fire at St. Paul apartment building

It's St. Paul's first fire death of the year.
Publish date:

One person was killed in a fire at a St. Paul apartment building early Saturday.

The fire erupted at the multi-unit building on the 400 block of Front Avenue, with fire coming from the second floor of the property at around 2:30 a.m.

St. Paul Fire Department says it had been informed that one adult and three children were possibly trapped inside, but later learned that the children were staying somewhere else that night.

Crews only located one victim inside however, bringing them to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

No other victims were found, with the fire extinguished and the scene safe by late Saturday morning.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire, though smoking is suspected.

This is the first first death in St. Paul in 2020.
