One man dies in first recorded St. Croix County traffic fatality of 2021

One man has died while not wearing a seatbelt in an early morning crash Tuesday.

A 76-year-old man has died in a western Wisconsin car crash.

A motorist reported a vehicle in a ditch near Tower and Coulee Trail roads in Troy Township around 6 a.m. Tuesday, but did not witness the incident.

Authorities say it's likely the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, slid into a ditch while crossing Coulee Trail and crashed into a tree. He also was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

The driver has been identified as Derwin Robey of River Falls.

The incident, which is the first fatal crash recorded in St. Croix County of 2021, remains under investigation.
