One more day of spring-like weather before winter, snow returns

Enjoy the spring-like weather while it lasts – winter is returning Monday.

Dense fog and cloudy skies kept the Twin Cities from reaching record-high temperatures Saturday, according to KSTP, but it didn't stop people from enjoying the winter warm-up. Minnesotans ditched their coats and headed outdoors – some restaurants even opened their patios, the news station notes.

There's a chance the Twin Cities sets a record Sunday, if the drizzle holds off.

Although it was warm this weekend, the Twin Cities hasn't seen the sun for nearly eight days, besides a glimpse of it Saturday, and our next shot at a sunny day is Tuesday and Wednesday, following Monday's blast of winter weather, according to MPR News.

The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory for Sunday night into Monday morning for northwestern Minnesota, which could make for slippery roads for the Monday morning commute, the weather service says.

For the Twin Cities, rain is expected to change to snow Monday night, producing light accumulations by Tuesday morning in the Twin Cities, the National Weather Service says. Temperatures are also expected to be more seasonable by the middle of the week.

The cold front is expected to bring slightly more snow to the northland Monday into Tuesday, with 1 to 2 inches possible in the Duluth area.

Unsafe ice

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources warned this week that the warm-up could make lakes unsafe to go out on, but that didn't stop some from trying.

FOX 9 says Douglas, Stearns and Kandiyohi sheriff's offices have received reports of several snowmobiles and other vehicles falling through the ice, and Kandiyohi officials say one person fell through the ice in New London Township.

No injuries were reported, the news station notes.
