One of seals that gained fame in Duluth floods euthanized
One of the harbor seals that escaped from the Lake Superior Zoo during last summer's Duluth flood has died.
The News Tribune reports vets euthanized Vivian the seal after exploratory surgery. She was 23 and had been living at St. Paul's Como Zoo since the flood that wrecked her Duluth home in June.
That flood killed several zoo animals but Vivian and her sister, Feisty, gained fame when they swam out of their enclosure -- indeed, out of the zoo -- and were discovered near Duluth's Grand Avenue. A dumbfounded motorist's photo of Feisty sitting in the road quickly went viral.
The Lake Superior Zoo's operations director tells the News Tribune Vivian was the nicest pinniped he'd ever worked with.
