A one-year-old child has been killed in a fire in rural Remer, northern Minnesota.

The fire was reported to authorities at 1:46 a.m. at a duplex in the area of Ge We Zance Lane in Boy Lake Township, Cass County.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrived to find the building engulfed in flames, with the property filled with smoke and fire.

Deputies were able to get a woman out of the home from a bedroom, while another woman and three children were able to escape before responders arrived.

However, responders inspecting the house then found the body of a one-year-old boy inside.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues, in coordination with the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department.

The boy has not yet been identified.
