Students at Orono Middle School are mourning the loss of their track coach who collapsed and died in a parking lot Thursday.

KARE 11 reports a number of students were present when coach and parent Bob Perry, 51, went down around 4 p.m at the high school campus.

Despite efforts from first responders, Perry died at the scene.

It's unclear what caused his death. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, according to the Star Tribune.

"Our hearts and deepest sympathy go out to his wife, Lisa, his children and family," Orono School District Superintendent Dr. Karen Orcutt said in a statement.

Counselors will be available to students Friday.

The Star Tribune says Perry coached track for the last six years and was also an assistant coach with the high school football program for the past four seasons.

He was not a teacher in the district. His two sons attend the high school.
