Pair of Uptown restaurants shut their doors, only one will be replaced

As often happens in the restaurant business, two eateries in Uptown have called it quits after the end of the busy Christmas season.

Both Tryg's Restaurant on Lake Calhoun and Spill the Wine in Lyn Lake have announced this week that they are closing down, following hot on the heels of bakery chain Wuollet, which closed its Uptown location at the start of the month.

Family-style American restaurant Tryg's has been in business for 10 years, according to the Business Journal, and will make way for a six-story, market-rate apartment building.

The restaurant announced on its website that it will be closing on Jan. 31, but will be open Fridays and Saturdays starting at 4 p.m. until then.

Spill the Wine closed its doors on Tuesday, telling its followers on its Facebook page that it will be replaced by a new restaurant, Tinto Cocina + Cantina.

"It is with much sadness we announced earlier today we have closed our doors. We are very grateful for the 8 year run we had, the friends and family we have made and couldn't have had the success we did without all of our fans and community. We have many memories that we will cherish and carry with us into our next chapter."

The Minneapolis Eater says Tinto Cocina will be a latin-infused eatery run by Rebecca Illingworth, who formerly ran the Bin Wine Bar in St. Paul's Lowertown.

The restaurant and bar scene in Uptown has proved fluid recently, with the closure of Wuollet earlier this month following the Christmas Eve closure of Southern-themed restaurant the BoneYard Kitchen & Bar, while at the end of August, popular nightspot Bar Abilene abruptly closed its doors.
