Panel suggests 3 women as replacements for retiring justice on state Supreme Court
Gov. Mark Dayton was given three names to consider when it comes time to pick a person to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, who will leave court next month after hitting the mandatory retirement age of 70.
The Commission on Judicial Selection has listed Appeals Court Judges Margaret Chutich and Natalie Hudson, and Minneapolis City Attorney Susan Segal as recommended candidates for the position, according to a news release.
Dayton is not required to pick a replacement from the list. Human Services Commissioner Lucinda Jesson is a rumored contender for the spot, the Star Tribune reports.
The governor plans to make his decision on Page's replacement following an interview process over the next few weeks, the release notes.
There are two women currently on the seven-member court, however Justice Wilhelmina Wright, who Dayton appointed in 2012, is awaiting confirmation to a federal judgeship. At that point, the governor will have to appoint another judge to the court.
This will be Dayton's third appointment to the Minnesota Supreme Court. He named David Lillehaug to the court in 2013.
