Soon enough the snow will fall and the construction season will quiet down in the Twin Cities, but there's still work to be done.
This weekend, westbound Interstate 494 will be closed from Hwy. 100 in Bloomington to Hwy. 212 in Eden Prairie. The closure will be in effect from 10 p.m. Friday through about 5 a.m. Monday.
The detour will take motorists to Hwy. 62 while construction crews continue building a ramp from East Bush Lake Road to I-494.
Eastbound I-494 will be closed next weekend, Friday night through Monday morning, from Hwy. 212 to Hwy. 100.
The ramp project is expected to be completed by December, giving westbound I-494 the first on-ramp from East Bush Lake Road since it was constructed in 1960, according to the City of Bloomington.
The city says that since I-494 was built, the area has seen a number of high-rise offices, hotels and homes built to the north and south of the freeway that has resulted in traffic problems.
The new westbound on-ramp will help alleviate some of that congestion.
