An Oakdale woman died Sunday when the vehicle she was in hit a deer on Hwy. 36 in Maplewood.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the woman was a passenger in a Toyota RAV4 traveling westbound on Hwy. 36 when it hit a deer west of Edgerton Street. The driver lost control of the vehicle and went into the ditch on the north side of the highway.

Jody Rae Bergsgaard, 56, of Oakdale, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing her seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the state patrol says.

A 61-year-old Oakdale man driving the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Regions Hospital for care.
