Passenger ejected, killed after truck hits tree in Carlton County

The crash occurred on the 200 block of Thomson Road early Monday morning.

A crash in Carlton early Monday morning killed one and injured another.

According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Department, officials received a report of a crash on the 200 block of Thomson Road at around 12:18 a.m. Monday morning.

A truck was reportedly traveling southbound when it left the road and struck a tree. The passenger of the car, a man, was ejected from the truck’s seat and killed.

The driver was critically injured and transported to Essentia Hospital in Duluth via EMS, according to the incident report. Names of the two victims have not yet been released.

At least one of the occupants was not wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the incident, police say.

The crash is still under investigation by the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office and State Patrol.
