Patience is paying off at the plate for Twins catcher Jason Castro

Jason Castro is really making a big impact for the Twins.

Twins catcher Jason Castro is making quite the first impression on his new teammate and Minnesota Twins' fans.

Castro laced the go-ahead RBI double on Thursday afternoon, then came around to score helping to lead the Twins to a 5-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

When Castro signed the three-year, $24.5 million deal that brought him to the Twins during the offseason, much was made out of his abilities behind the plate. But it's been his early season approach at the plate that's been getting noticed.

Through three games, Castro is hitting .500 (3 for 6) with 3 RBIs and four runs scored. Prior to Thursday's go-ahead double Castro had walked in six of his first 11 plate appearances.

He was an All-Star in 2013 with the Astros, that year Castro hit .276 with 18 home runs, but he hasn't been able to produce those number since slashing a combined .212/.291/.369 over the last three years.

MLB.com Twins blogger Rhett Bollinger notes that Castro worked hard to fix his swing and become more patient at the plate during the offseason.

"I've kinda been around a while, and I tried to take a step back this offseason and try to re-evaluate everything," Castro said Thursday. "I felt like that was one thing I could stand to make adjustments on. I worked on it during Spring Training and it's worked out."

So far, the new approach appears to be paying off for Castro and the Twins.
