Paul Ryan didn't listen to Papa Roach – don't fall for it
It doesn't matter how many people RT it, or how quickly it spreads: House Speaker Paul Ryan did not blast Papa Roach's "Last Resort" after the Republican health care plan he championed died Friday.
This silliness started with this tweet from Justin Halpern, the guy who started the ShitMyDadSays Twitter and is now a TV writer.
It was retweeted more than 6,400 times, liked more than 10,000 – and got Papa Roach trending nationally on Twitter.
But come on. Look at it. The font is clearly an inconsistent size, and it's spaced completely different from the actual story text above.
And read the actual New York Times story, which ends with:
Halpern made fairly clear in his replies that it was a photoshop, not real. And at 5:48 p.m. CST – about 90 minutes after the original tweet was sent – he pretty explicitly clarified it was fake, writing: "I honestly thought my Paul Ryan/ Papa Roach photoshop joke was obvious, but, I was wrong."
But take this as a lesson: Even if something is as funny as the idea of a leading lawmaker listening to Papa Roach, check around before you believe it.
It's easy to get fooled, and soon find yourself losing your sight, losing your mind, and wishing somebody would tell you you're fine
This is pretty funny, though:
