Paulsen ignores DFL opponent's corn-dog eating challenge

DFL challenger Brian Barnes has been eager to meet Rep. Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., for a debate in the District 3 race, but Paulsen hasn't agreed to any. So Barnes suggested that they duel in a state fair-themed contest. Paulsen didn't respond. That's too bad, Comedy Central says.

Scraping for attention in his bid to oust Rep. Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., DFL opponent Brian Barnes challenged Paulsen to a duel at a state fair-themed contest of Paulsen's choosing. Barnes suggested cow milking, butter carving or corn dog eating.

But Paulsen did not respond to the challenge, CityPages notes. He also has not agreed to a debate.

Comedy Central's Indecision 2012 blog picked up the item on Tuesday, lamenting the lost opportunity and noting that "with any luck, politicians will soon be stuffing pork into somewhere other than just their districts."

Barnes is a longshot challenger in the District 3 race, MPR notes. Paulsen has a 30-to-1 cash advantage, MPR says.
