Paulsen to seek re-election to Congress; won't run for governor, Senate

Republican Congressman Erik Paulsen says he will seek re-election to the House and is not a candidate to run for governor or the U.S. Senate in 2014.

MinnPost reports Paulsen thanked those who have encouraged him to run for higher office but said the House is where he can best represent Minnesotans.

MPR says Paulsen vowed to keep working on a repeal of the medical device tax, which has been a priority of his in the House.

If this sounds familiar, it should. Paulsen indicated in February that he was not a candidate to challenge Sen. Al Franken. But no sooner was that story out than Paulsen and his staff began hedging.

In ruling out a Senate or gubernatorial bid, Paulsen joins a fellow Minnesota Republican Congressman, John Kline, who took his name out of the running last month.

No Republicans have emerged to challenge Franken yet. Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson and businessman Scott Honour are Republicans who have announced campaigns against Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton.

Paulsen is serving his third term in the House. He represents Minnesota's Third District, which consists of Hennepin County suburbs of Minneapolis.
