Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle in Coon Rapids

A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle while walking in Coon Rapids.

The incident happened at 9:38 p.m. on Sunday at Coon Rapids Boulevard and Avocet Street Northwest, near the entrance to Anoka Hennepin Regional High School.

The pedestrian hit has been identified as 40-year-old Amy Rebecca Hanlon, who was "walking in the right traffic lane when she was struck by a vehicle," per the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

She was taken to Mercy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle was a 23-year-old man from Brooklyn Center.

The incident is under investigation by the Coon Rapids Police Department, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.

There have been 151 fatalities on Minnesota's roads so far in 2019, five fewer than at the same date last year.
