Pedestrian fatally struck by motorist in Columbia Heights
A pedestrian attempting to cross a roadway in Columbia Heights Wednesday morning was fatally struck by a man driving a Ford Ranger.
According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the 65-year-old man was struck just before 6:30 a.m. as he attempted to cross Central Ave. NE at 44th Ave. NE. Authorities said the man tried to cross when the pedestrian signage "was showing not to cross."
The 65-year-old was transported to HCMC where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
The 25-year-old man driving the Ford Ranger involved in the crash was not arrested and alcohol does not appear to have factored in the incident, the sheriff's release said.
"The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to always follow traffic and pedestrian signals when on the roads," the release added.
No further information has been released and the investigation is ongoing.
