Maplewood police are appealing to the public for help finding a hit-and-run driver.

The vehicle struck a pedestrian at English St and Belmont Lane E. late Saturday night, according to a Sunday news release:

When police arrived, the vehicle was gone, and the pedestrian was lying in the middle of the road.

The 20-year-old victim is now in critical condition at Regions Hospital.

As for the car in question, surveillance footage shows it "may be similar to a mid-size SUV or van.

Witnesses also saw a "tan, possibly a late 90’s style Honda in the area who may have been following the suspect vehicle."

"The driver of this vehicle could have valuable information and we are seeking their assistance," the release says.

Authorities did note that it's "possible the driver (of the suspect vehicle) was not aware they struck anyone."

It's possible the car has front-end damage, "but it may not be significant. "

They want to talk to anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have seen something.

If you have information on the crash, you're urged to contact the Ramsey County Dispatch Center at 651-777-8191.
