A woman was killed Tuesday evening in St. Paul after she was struck by a passing car after she had fallen in the street.
According to the St. Paul Police Department, officers responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle at George Street West and Stryker Avenue South at around 6 p.m.
Witnesses told police they saw a woman fall in the middle of the roadway and lie in the street. They then stopped their vehicle to help her.
While the witnesses were assisting the woman, a vehicle traveled toward the group westbound on George Street. The driver had a green light and was not slowing down, according to the police report.
The witnesses got out of the way and the vehicle struck the victim.
Medics were also called to the scene and the victim was transported to Regions Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to police, the driver of the vehicle had a valid license and is cooperating with the investigation. No arrests or citations have yet been made in the case.
