Pedestrian killed by train at crossing in Detroit Lakes

It happened shortly after police had removed him from someone's home.

A man was killed in Detroit Lakes on Monday morning after he was struck by a train at a crossing.

Detroit Lakes police say they were called to a report of a pedestrian hit by a southbound train at the Canadian Pacific crossing on Willow Street just after midnight on Monday morning.

They found a 57-year-old man laying to the side of the tracks with severe injuries, and administered lifesaving efforts.

He was taken to Essentia/St. Mary's emergency room in Detroit Lakes, where he was pronounced dead.

The man is from the Fergus Falls area and police say that shortly before the incident, they had been called to remove him from a homeowner's property on Campbell Avenue.

Campbell Avenue is a short distance from the Willow Street crossing.

The train that hit him was operated by Canadian Pacific Railroad.
