Police in Crow Wing County have identified the man killed in a collision as he walked along a road north of Brainerd at the weekend.

The collision happened at 6:41 p.m. on Saturday, with police responding to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of County Roads 3 and 109 in Mission Township.

When they arrived, they found the victim in the northbound lane of County Road 3. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has since been identified as 51-year-old Robert Hutchins, of nearby Merrifield.

The driver of the vehicle, a 59-year-old man from Edina, stopped at the scene immediately and has been cooperating with police.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard said the vehicle was traveling north on County Road 3 when it struck Hutchins, who was in the lane of traffic.

Police say Hutchins was dressed all in black at the time of the crash.
