People love visiting Minnesota (no matter what Buzzfeed says)

Nobody ever vacations in Minnesota.

That's according to an (extremely tongue-in-cheek) Buzzfeed article, 22 Reasons Nobody Ever Vacations in Minnesota.

One reason is how "ugly" the landscape. The writer further proved his (again, sarcastic) point with a gorgeous picture of Split Rock Lighthouse on Lake Superior.

The writer also notes Minnesota's nonexistent art scene (Spoonbridge and Cherry, anyone?), how the 10,000 lakes are just puddles (two words: Lake Superior), and how there's simply no place to get away from it all (hahaha).

How many visitors we get each year

The fact of the matter is, a lot of people actually visit Minnesota. Both to explore the cities and one of the largest malls in America, and to escape into the relaxing countryside.

According to Explore Minnesota, about 70 million domestic and international travelers visit Minnesota every year. And about 40 million check out the Mall of America.

Tourism numbers are growing, too.

Last summer, tourism peaked thanks to the nice weather. It hit the highest numbers the state's seen since 2008.

A Meet Minneapolis study found that the Twin Cities had more visitors last year than ever before. Tourism in the cities grew by 2 percent over the course of a year to 31.6 million.

That may have to do with increased hospitality in the Twin Cities metro area. Meet Minneapolis announced that after looking at things like hotel and convention center bookings, the group determined last year was the Twin Cities' best for hospitality.

So here's the bottom line: People love to visit Minnesota.Maybe for the 10,000 lakes (actually 11,842), the 22,000 miles of snowmobile trails, the 760 campsites – or one of the other 21 reasons Explore Minnesota gives to venture throughout the state.
