A boater drowned in a western Wisconsin lake while fishing on Friday afternoon.

The incident was reported around 4:46 p.m. in Polk County, when the sheriff's office was sent to Sandhill Lake off of 204th Street in Luck.

Preliminary investigation found that the person had been fishing on the lake and fallen out of their boat.

They are believed to have been in the water for several minutes when responders arrived to find them unresponsive.

Attempts to resuscitate the boater at the scene proved unsuccessful, and they were pronounced dead.

At this stage, no details about the victim, including their sex, have been released.

The incident will be investigated further by the Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin DNR.
