A person has died in Brainerd after they were hit by a freight train.
A BNSF spokeswoman told Bring Me The News one of its trains struck a person who was laying on the tracks at 2:35 a.m. in Brainerd.
The incident happened on tracks that weren't at a designated crossing.
No details are available at this stage about the victim, with BNSF officers and emergency personnel having responded to the scene.
The Grand Forks Herald reports the coal train came to a halt just east of Southwest 13th Street, inside the BNSF Railway yard by the Northern Pacific Center.
According to witnesses on the scene, the front engines of the coal train came to a stop just east of Southeast 13th Street inside the BNSF Railway yard next to the Northern Pacific Center.
