'Person of interest' in Jelinek case pleads guilty to drug charges

The last person who claims to have seen Danielle Jelinek since her disappearance more than two months ago pleaded guilty to drug charges Tuesday.

FOX9 reports 28-year-old Aaron Schnagl was charged after police found 12 pounds of marijuana, cocaine and pills at his home in Chisago Lake Township.

Police were called to the home on Dec. 9 to check the welfare of Jelinek, 27, of Oakdale, but only found her car and other personal belongings.

Schnagl accepted a plea deal and will serve time for a previous conviction and probation violation, along with the new charges. He's expected to serve a minimum of four and a half years in prison.

The sentence brings some relief to Jelinek's family members, who tell FOX9 that they're glad to know Schnagl will stay behind bars.

The Chisago County Sheriff's Office has combed up to 8 miles around Schnagl's home and searched area waters, but have turned up no clues.

Schnagl, Jelinek's on-again, off-again boyfriend, has not been charged and maintains his innocence in the case. He told police he and Jelinek went out for drinks the night of Dec. 8 and went back to his house for the night. When he woke up, Schnagl claims Jelinek was gone.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction of anyone responsible.
