A driver and passenger had a lucky escape when they managed to avoid injury despite their pickup truck being hit by a freight train Friday afternoon.
Carlton County officials responded to a crash involving the pickup and cargo train in Twin Lakes Township.
According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, a pickup truck was traveling northbound on a driveway south of Highway 210 when it crossed over train tracks at around 4:30 p.m.
A westbound train, operated by BNSF Railway, then struck the truck.
Responders at the scene found that neither the driver or passenger of the truck were injured.
The driver was not impaired and was given a citation for not stopping at a railroad crossing, according to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office.
